Our Story

Msanii was born on the road, without a plan to build a brand.

Throughout our travels, we developed a love for collecting well-crafted pieces from artisans we befriended and revisited time and time again. We were drawn to pieces — and people — we couldn't leave behind. And every time we arrived home, we were met with the same question from friends: "Where did you get that?"

Eventually we stopped answering the question one piece at a time and started answering it properly. Msanii is our way of bringing the makers, jewellers and designers we'd fallen for on our travels to you.

Every piece we carry is found the same way the first ones were — through conversation, through travel, through following a maker's work back to their workshop or market stall and asking to know more. We're not interested in curating a "look." We're interested in the story behind it: who made it, what skill it took, and why it matters.

We believe in buying consciously, and knowing more. Pieces, chosen properly. Each one carries not just craftsmanship, but the hands and the story behind it.

Hunter

Hunter grew up in Tanzania, in a family of adventurers who are always encouraging each other to travel and live new experiences across the globe. That instinct carries through everything he does, from a career in remote travel across the middle-east and continental Africa. He has a constant pull toward the unusual and the unfamiliar. He's drawn always to what's over the next ridge, and to the makers and artisans found only by a good adventure

Caroline

A forever-curious spirit, Caroline grew up surrounded by sea and mountains on the coast of Maine. That curiosity weaves into everything she does: from her work as a midwife, grounded in care for people, to her yoga practice, which keeps her open to the world. She's captivated by different cultures, beliefs and ways of life, and to the stories behind the things people create.
